Our History

Tom’s Pawn family owned and operated since 1972 with four businesses located in Lake Jackson, Angleton, Brazoria and the main location in Clute. The father and son team of Tom and Dennis Garrett began in 1972 with the opening of Tom’s Pawn in Clute.

Tom graduated from the University of Texas in 1954 with a degree in pharmacology. After graduation he opened a drug store in Clute and sold the business in 1975. Tom entered the real estate business and was a realtor until 1977. In 1977 Tom and Dennis opened a second pawnshop located in Angleton. They then in 1983 opened a restaurant and army/navy surplus store in Lake Jackson and in 1984 the restaurant and surplus store was converted to a pawnshop. Tom Garrett passed away in January 1995.

In December of 2006 Dennis, Paula (Dennis’s wife) and Brian (son) opened a 4th location in Brazoria.

Dennis graduated from Brazoswood High School in 1967. He then attended Alvin Community College. After college, Dennis joined the U.S. Army. Dennis and Paula were married in 1973 and are now enjoying retirement after 40+ years of running the company. Paula graduated from Brazoswood High School in 1970 and then attended Stephen F Austin. Paula ran the Lake Jackson location pawnshop as well as managed QuickBooks for the company.

In December 2004, Brian Garrett became Vice President of the company. Brian graduated from Angleton High School in 1996. He then attended Sam Houston State University and graduated with a degree in Business Management in 2000. Brian and Shellie were married in 2001. Brian along with his amazing Team runs the company today with their biggest passion being helping others and continuing to build what his parents began.
